Zarina's Orchard
An interactive, storytelling concert for 7 - 10 year olds

A brave heroine, a firebird, a demon, dust storms and pomegranates...
An exciting Central Asian tale, with songs from the Middle East and Central Asian lands - children will be taught the refrain to one of Joglaresa's Judeo-Arabic songs, plus rhythms and sounds for the tale of Zarina's Orchard.

Experienced workshop leaders, Joglaresa "un-pack" their songs in a lively, interactive atmosphere, introducing their repertoire, instruments and themselves as professional musicians. They draw upon their extensive cross-cultural repertoire of songs, travelling both geographically and chronologically from the Middle Ages to the present day, from Europe to North Africa and the Middle East.

Sally Pomme Clayton - storyteller
Belinda Sykes - voice, bagpipes, mey, shawm

Tim Garside - darbuka, bendir, sehtar, nay, percussion

"One of the country’s most highly regarded storytellers... Sally awakens the imagination..." The Independent
"Belinda Sykes is an infectious communicator gifted with a powerful vocal technique" Early Music Today

Joglaresa taught an Arabic lovesong, and a Jewish lullaby to 200 school children. They all performed together at Cheltenham Festival - hear them singing:
