Magnus Mehta - percussion, voice

Magnus graduated from the RSAMD in 2001 and by that time was already working with many of the major ensembles in Scotland, including the BBC Scottish Symphony, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Opera and Ballet. He was also a percussion finalist in the 1998 BBC Young Musician of the Year. During 2004-2006 he travelled to Cuba, Turkey and Morocco to study the music and percussion instruments of these countries. More recently he spent a month in Kerala, South India investigating Indian music. I moved back to London in 2007 to work on several productions at the National Theatre, which lead to work at Shakespeare's Globe, Royal Shakespeare Company, Ballet Rambert, Matthew Bourne's "New Adventures", and several West End Productions including "The Lion King" "Latin Fever" and "We Will Rock You"

As a session musician he has contributed to several commercial recordings including: The Hobbit, an unexpected journey, Jadoo, The Hollow Crown, Papadopoulos and Sons, Doomsday. Down to Earth, and Ayumi Hamasaki's "Rock'n'Roll circus".

Magnus leads and co-produces PENYA as well as playing in several other projects including Melt Yourself Down, duo with Dario Rossetti Bonell, Sacha Silva, Orchestra Bombo, the hKippers, and I recently recorded an album of carnatic music with Nahva Graha Band.
